Venezuelan Migrant Crashes Into Florida Mom And Child Then Flees Scene

A Venezuelan migrant granted Temporary Protected Status is facing charges after allegedly striking a Florida mother and her baby with her car, then fleeing the scene, sparking outrage after being released on bond.

Sarahy Parra-Ovalles, a Venezuelan migrant who was granted a work permit after overstaying her tourist visa, is facing charges after allegedly hitting a Florida mother and her baby with her car and fleeing the scene. The incident occurred while the mother was pushing her 4-month-old infant in a stroller across the street. Parra-Ovalles, who was reportedly working as an Amazon driver, allegedly struck the mother, causing the baby to be thrown into the street.

Surveillance footage reportedly shows Parra-Ovalles briefly getting out of her car to place the baby back in the stroller before fleeing, leaving the mother bleeding from “catastrophic” injuries on the pavement. The mother’s attorney, Judd Rosen, described the horrifying scene, stating that Parra-Ovalles abandoned the infant in the intersection while the mother lay severely injured.

According to *The New York Post*, Parra-Ovalles, 45, entered the U.S. on a tourist visa in 2019, which expired in 2021. She was later granted Temporary Protected Status (TPS), allowing her to apply for a work permit. Miami-Dade police arrested Parra-Ovalles on charges of leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury and leaving the scene of a crash without serious bodily injury. However, she was released on bond, sparking outrage from the victim’s family attorney, who questioned how the justice system could allow her back on the streets so quickly after the accident.

The case highlights the Biden administration’s 2021 decision to extend TPS to hundreds of thousands of Venezuelan nationals, allowing them to remain in the U.S. and work legally. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas announced that Venezuelans who arrived before March 8, 2021, would be eligible for TPS, potentially benefiting an estimated 320,000 individuals.
