$8 Billion For Ukraine, $750 Bucks To Victims

As Hurricane Helene victims struggle to recover, Vice President Kamala Harris is facing harsh criticism for offering just $750 in federal aid—days after the Biden-Harris administration pledged $8 billion in new support for Ukraine. Critics are accusing the administration of neglecting Americans in their time of need.

Vice President Kamala Harris is facing mounting criticism after announcing $750 in federal aid for victims of Hurricane Helene, just days after the Biden-Harris administration committed $8 billion in additional support to Ukraine. As the deadly storm left hundreds dead and many more missing across the southwestern U.S., Harris spent the weekend campaigning on the West Coast, only visiting Georgia two days after former President Donald Trump had already been on the ground providing relief.

In Augusta, Georgia, Harris emphasized the $750 in FEMA aid, meant to cover immediate necessities like food and baby formula. “You can apply now,” she said, promoting the relief as a step to help those affected by the disaster. However, the aid package has drawn sharp criticism, with many pointing out the stark contrast between the relatively small amount allocated to hurricane victims and the billions sent overseas to Ukraine.

Just a week earlier, standing alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, Harris praised the administration’s commitment to Ukraine’s defense. “We will continue to provide the security assistance Ukraine needs to succeed on the battlefield,” she said, highlighting President Biden’s announcement of another $8 billion in aid, part of the $175 billion the administration has sent to Ukraine since the war began.

The backlash was swift, with critics accusing the administration of prioritizing international interests over the needs of American citizens in the wake of devastating natural disasters. Congressman Tom Tiffany (R-WI) voiced widespread frustration on social media:

“$750 for Hurricane Helene victims. $700 for Maui fire victims. $175 BILLION to Ukraine. FREE flights, health care, housing, and food for illegal aliens. Under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, American citizens come last.”

As hurricane victims struggle to rebuild their lives, the Biden-Harris administration is now grappling with accusations that it has failed to adequately support Americans at home while funneling vast sums abroad.
