Rep. Thomas Massie has introduced legislation to prevent Joe Biden from forgiving Ukraine’s $4.65 billion debt to American taxpayers.
On Wednesday, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller announced that the Biden administration would be taking steps to cancel loans given to the Ukrainian government.
“We have taken the step that was outlined in the law to cancel those loans,” Miller said during the press briefing.
Miller noted that Congress could still block the move — and Rep. Massie was up to the challenge.
Reuters reports, “President Joe Biden has ordered officials to rush as much aid to Ukraine as possible before he leaves office on Jan. 20 amid concerns President-elect Donald Trump could limit U.S. support.”
On Wednesday evening, hours after the press briefing, Rep. Massie introduced legislation to stop the effort.
“On his way out, Joe Biden is trying to forgive $4.65 billion of debt Ukraine owes America’s taxpayers. I just introduced H.J.Res 224 to stop this ‘America Last’ policy from taking effect,” the congressman wrote in a post on X.

The resolution states that “Congress disapproves the proposal relating to the indebtedness of the Government of Ukraine submitted by the President of the United States to Congress on November 18, 2024.”
Rep. Massie told The Gateway Pundit that he may be able to force a vote on the matter.
Wednesday was the last day Congress was able to file the resolution.
Republican Senator Rand Paul has put forward a similar resolution in the Senate.
This is a breaking news story. The Gateway Pundit will be providing updates as more information becomes available.
