Xi: China Prioritizes Building Relations with Brazil

China’s diplomatic priority is to build relations with Brazil, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Friday at a meeting with his visiting Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

The visit of Brazilian President Lula da Silva to China demonstrated the mutual enthusiasm and importance that both countries attach to their relationship. The Brazilian President welcomed Chinese companies to invest in Brazil, emphasizing that the strengthening of relations with China is a strong aspiration shared by all sectors of society in Brazil.

The two leaders exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis, calling for dialogue and negotiations as the only workable solution, and urging more countries to play a constructive role toward a political settlement. Their meeting resulted in the signing of multiple bilateral cooperative documents in areas such as trade, investment, and poverty alleviation, which emphasized the deepening of the China-Brazil comprehensive strategic partnership.

According to Alessandro Golombiewski Teixeira, a former minister of tourism of Brazil, the people-centered policies and common approaches to multilateralism in global affairs demonstrated by China and Brazil are important, not only for their bilateral relationship but for the world at large. As strong voices for developing countries, their enhanced bilateral ties are also helping other countries on a multilateral level.

In conclusion, the visit of President Lula to China underscores the commitment of both countries to deepening their partnership and working together to promote economic growth and global cooperation. Their shared values and approaches to multilateralism position China and Brazil as important players in shaping the future of international relations.
