Outgoing Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is once again drawing ire from conservatives after reports surfaced that he opposes President Trumpโs potential use of recess appointments to bypass Senate gridlock.
RINO McConnell is siding with Democrats to obstruct Trumpโs agenda.
The Gateway Pundit reported on Monday that according to a now-deleted tweet by Jane Mayer of The New Yorker, McConnell was quoted at a Washington gathering on Sunday as saying, โThere will be no recess appointments.โ
The tweet was later deleted for unclear reasons, and Mayer has neither retracted nor issued a clarification following its removal.
Assistant News Director for Florida Voice News called out Mayer, stating, โWhy delete it? And NO retraction OR correction is listed on her account. Was she given a command by a higher up because of the blowback?โ
Mayerโs silence following the tweetโs deletion has raised eyebrows, but conservative Senator Rick Scott pushed back against McConnellโs alleged comments, declaring firmly, โYes, there will be [recess appointments].โ

ABC Congressional reporter Allison Pecorin asked McConnell on Monday whether he would support adjourning the Senate to allow President Trump to make recess appointments. McConnell dismissed the question with a flippant remark, saying, โToo early for interviews in the hall.โ
However, Punchbowl News reporter Andrew Desiderio confirmed that McConnell indeed privately expressed opposition to the idea.
โMcConnell did, in fact, make a comment yesterday โ which was first revealed by a New Yorker reporter who subsequently deleted her tweet โ indicating heโd oppose recess appointments,โ he wrote.

โSenate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell signaled at a private event Sunday night that he opposes President-elect Donald Trumpโs demand for recess appointments,โ Punchbowl News reported.
The news outlet continued, stating, โOf course, McConnell wonโt be in charge of the Senate next year, so his pronouncement here doesnโt have as much weight as, say, if incoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune were to say something similar. Thune and other top Senate Republicans have taken a cautious line on this so far, saying that they will work to quickly consider Trumpโs nominees with hearings and confirmation votes.โ
Attention has now turned to Senator John Thune (R-SD), McConnellโs protรฉgรฉ and a potential successor.
In a press conference Wednesday, Thune stated, โWe will look at and explore all options to make sure [President Trumpโs nominees] get moved quickly.โ
He also took to X to emphasize, โWe must act quickly and decisively to get the presidentโs nominees in place as soon as possible, & all options are on the table to make that happen, including recess appointments. We cannot let Schumer and Senate Dems block the will of the American people.โ
