Federal officials are currently delaying the release of Audrey Hale’s manifesto, the woman who killed six people in a Christian school in Nashville. According to local officials, the documents are “astronomically dangerous”. The manifesto was written by Hale, who was born female, but identified as transgender using “he/him” pronouns. Police officials have revealed that Hale suffered from mental health issues and was under the care of a doctor, while her parents did not know she had procured several firearms.
Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) has stated that the FBI is behind the delay, and the documents should be made public for grieving family members and members of Congress. However, Metro Nashville Council Member Courtney Johnston claims that the majority of the documents would be too dangerous for the public to see. She also stated that the documents contained detailed plans on total destruction, which in the wrong hands could be harmful.
Hale, who was 28 years old, killed three children and three adults at a private school last month. A range of conservative commentators have publicly called for the manifesto to be made public. They claim that the FBI’s delay is part of a cover-up to keep the public from knowing about the dangers of transgenderism.
Rep. Walter Hudson (R-Minn.) has called for the documents to be released, saying that it could help the FBI and other agencies gain more trust from the American public. He cites conversations with his constituents who have exhibited an “increasing distrust with the FBI and with government agencies generally.”
Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) has also spoken out, saying that if the documents are not ultimately released, an investigation needs to be launched to find out why.
It remains unclear whether the documents contain detailed plans to attack other sites or are a reflection of Hale’s mental health issues. The FBI’s press office has been contacted for comment.
