By now, most nations of the world have recalibrated their foreign policies to deal with the โTrump tornado.โ
When it comes to the European Union, as much as they may engage in occasional bravado in front of the cameras, their officials are working intently to be on President Donald J. Trumpโs good side โ and so far, itโs not working.
Armed with the US military might and threatening to curtail access to the gigantic American consumersโ market, the President is advancing his Foreign Policy agenda without much regard to the opinion of the European Globalist-Liberal establishment โ that nefarious entity that captured the group of Western nations that formerly were good US allies.

โLook, letโs be honest, the European Union was formed in order to screw the United States. Thatโs the purpose of it, and theyโve done a good job of it. But now Iโm president.โ

Yesterday (27), the European Commission was striving to paint its engagement with the Trump administration in the best light after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio canceled a meeting with EU High Representative Kaja Kallas at the last minute.
Euronews reported:
โKallas was already in Washington DC when the news broke the encounter had been called off due to โscheduling issuesโ. The snub left Kallas without what was supposed to be the highest-level meeting of her two-day visit to the capital.โ
Neither the EU nor the US side have explained the nature of the scheduling issue.
Add to that the fact that Trump has reaffirmed his intention of imposing 25% tariffs on EU-made goods, and we understand the picture not to be rosy at all for the Eurocrats.
โThe back-to-back events โ the cancellation of the Kallas-Rubio meeting and the announcement of steep tariffs โ cast doubt over the Commissionโs ability to develop a functioning relationship with the new White House and its mercurial tenant.โ

The Euronews report makes a puerile point of suggesting that relations are going badly because Trump is โmercurialโ, oblivious to the fact that his popular mandate is to defy EUโs censorship, โfirewallingโ of conservatives and even the canceling of elections and arrest of the favorite candidate, as in Romania.
โDespite the public setbacks, the Commission insists its engagement with the other side of the Atlantic has been so far โgoodโ and โpositiveโ.
โHigh-level political contacts between the Commission and the US counterpart have been ongoing since the Trump administration, even in the weeks beforeโ, Arianna Podestร , the Commissionโs deputy chief spokesperson, said on Thursday. โThe important aspect is that these contacts are taking place and are focusing on what matters most for the European citizens (and) European businessesโ, Podestร added.
โThe reasons to be in contact are numerous, be it economical, be it geopolitical, and we continue to engage on all. And this is positive itselfโ.โ
