Political correctness around Christmas has gotten so out of hand that even people who work in the entertainment industry have noticed it.
During a recent episode of the ‘Fly on the Wall’ podcast, David Spade told Dana Carvey about a Christmas tree lighting ceremony that failed to use the word Christmas. Spade is clearly disgusted by this, as are millions of Americans who have complained about this sort of thing for years now.
Why can’t they call it a Christmas tree? In some instances, people have said ‘holiday tree’ but that’s even worse, in a way.

Comedian and actor David Spade blasted a mall tree-lighting ceremony for refusing to use the word Christmas. “You’re not allowed to slam someone else’s religion,” Spade said, pointing out a stark double standard.
“Christmas is taking a little bit of a beating lately. It is December, and I saw the other day there was a tree lighting ceremony for the Christmas tree in some dopey mall,” the Joe Dirt star said during Sunday’s episode of the Fly on the Wall with Dana Carvey and David Spade podcast.
“But it said ‘tree lighting ceremony,’ and they were careful not to say the word Christmas during the whole ceremony,” Spade continued, before asking, “Why? So it’s just a tree?”
“I would understand if you said, ‘They’re doing the tree lighting at the Grove’ or whatever — but to consciously avoid that [Christmas], then what is the tree for? A December to remember? Is it a Lexus dealership?” the Tommy Boy star added. “Isn’t it for Christmas?”
Carvey chimed in, noting, “I know a lot of different kinds of people, before acknowledging, “I’ve never met someone from another religious faith that was upset about a Christmas tree.”

It’s absurd to devote an entire event to the lighting of a Christmas tree and then refuse to use the word Christmas. It’s encouraging to hear David Spade calling this out, too.
