‘He had dinner with an anti-Semite’: CNN host grills JD Vance on bigoted Trump statements

CNN’s Dana Bash on Sunday grilled Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) about former President Donald Trump’s repeated attacks on American Jews and his associations with notorious anti-Semites.

During the interview, Bash asked Vance to comment on Trump’s recent remarks that any Jewish person who voted for President Joe Biden in 2020 should be “ashamed” of themselves.

“So I just want to be clear: You think Jewish people who voted for Joe Biden should be ashamed?” she asked.

“Well, what I think, Dana, is that people should look at the record and recognize that Donald Trump has actually been really good for the state of Israel,” he replied. “We had peace and prosperity in our country and we had a very stalwart ally in Israel… So I think it’s reasonably to look at this situation and say, if you’re a Jewish American who cares about the state of Israel, who cares about these anti-Semitic riots, and say you should be on the side of Republicans in 2024 because they govern effectively on some of the issues that you care about.”

Of course, this is not the argument Trump made, as he specifically said that any Jewish person who voted for Biden in 2020 — which is roughly 68 percent of American Jews — should feel “ashamed.”

Bash pointed this out to Vance, who countered by saying that “he’s made similar comments about lots of different groups of people” and added that “I don’t think anybody can look at the presidency and the conduct of Donald Trump and say this is a person who’s somehow anti-Semitic.”

“He had dinner with Nick Fuentes, who is an avowed anti-Semite,” Bash shot back.

“Dana, you should look at the record of Joe Biden,” Vance insisted.
