Honduran Brutally Stabs Two In Missouri

The story of Jose Barrera Amaya illustrates the consequences of the Biden-Harris Administration’s immigration policies. Barrera Amaya, a Honduran national, likely entered the United States as a “gotaway” after evading Border Patrol in 2021. Despite his undocumented entry, and a previous arrest for fighting and disorderly conduct, ICE released him on his own recognizance due to the Administration’s immigration enforcement priorities outlined by DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in a 2021 memorandum. Just months later, Barrera Amaya was arrested again, this time for the brutal stabbing of two individuals in O’Fallon, Missouri.

Since taking office, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have overseen a significant influx of illegal immigrants into the U.S., with over 7 million people entering the country due to their administration’s immigration policies. This surge has overwhelmed cities, strained public services, and, in some cases, led to criminal activities within communities. The Administration claims that illegal aliens are thoroughly vetted before release, but evidence suggests otherwise. A federal judge has noted that DHS’s screening processes are insufficient to determine whether arriving individuals have criminal backgrounds in their home countries.

The case of Barrera Amaya exemplifies this gap in the vetting process. DHS records show that Barrera Amaya was first encountered on December 10, 2021, at the U.S.-Mexico border and expelled under Title 42. However, lacking further records, it is believed that he later re-entered the country undetected. In November 2023, he was arrested in Missouri for drunk and disorderly conduct and fighting. Although ICE lodged a detainer against him, he was released due to the administration’s policies, which prioritize only specific categories of criminal activity for detention and removal.

Tragically, Barrera Amaya’s release led to further violence. On March 16, 2024, he was arrested for stabbing his neighbor and the neighbor’s brother at a laundromat. This incident prompted the House Judiciary Committee to request his case file from DHS. Despite a lack of cooperation from DHS, the Committee eventually obtained Barrera Amaya’s file, revealing the details of his entry and subsequent arrests.

The story of Barrera Amaya is just one of many similar cases arising from the Biden-Harris Administration’s handling of immigration enforcement. Since 2021, the administration has allowed more than 5.4 million illegal aliens into the U.S. while an estimated 1.9 million “gotaways” have evaded authorities. The consequences of these policies are now being felt across the country, as communities grapple with the impact of unchecked immigration and the criminal activities of a small but significant number of illegal aliens.
