“President Trump’s roundhouse kick in the first debate is part of the reason why you have Democrats in total disarray right now,” Vance said, referring to the June 27 debate between Biden and Trump. “It is really the contrast between Republicans and Democrats. Democrats are actively trying to throw their nominee under the bus. This party out here is really united behind President Trump. It’s a really good feeling. And I think that that momentum is something you can almost reach out and touch. It’s so powerful. It’s so cool.”
The GOP convention showcased this unity, with primary competitors uniting behind Trump as the nominee. Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, who delivered her delegates for Trump, endorsed him wholeheartedly in her speech, appealing to former Trump critics by emphasizing the importance of unity against Democrat President Joe Biden.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis echoed this sentiment, urging Republicans to send Biden “back to his basement” and return Trump to the White House. Vance, once a Trump critic himself, is now a leading supporter as Trump’s vice-presidential running mate, highlighting the transformative impact of Trump’s presidency.
Trump praised Vance for his loyalty and for exemplifying how he can convert skeptics. Vance’s influence in key battleground states, such as Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, is crucial for breaking the Democrats’ “blue wall” despite tepid support for Biden.
“Absolutely, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin — obviously, we’re here in Milwaukee — are a major, major focus of President Trump’s campaign,” Vance said. “Why does Joe Biden want to buy oil from Iran and Russia instead of from Pennsylvania energy workers? Why does he weaken the American manufacturing economy? Why does he prioritize foreign despots over American workers? President Trump is going to change that.”
Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla, SpaceX, and X, also sees the potential for a Trump-led economy, Vance added. “Elon and I know each other a little bit, but he’s a great example of an American entrepreneur who builds real things — cars, rockets — and employs American workers. That’s the kind of economy President Trump wants to create.”
