New Dem Bill Exempts LGBTQ+ Aliens From Detention

TRUTH PUKE’S TAKE: In a move that could have serious repercussions for the treatment of illegal immigrants in the US, Democratic lawmakers have introduced the Dignity for Detained Immigrants Act. If passed, the legislation would make it harder to detain individuals classified as “vulnerable persons,” including LGBTQ+ individuals, non-English speakers, and people with disabilities, among others.

The bill also calls for the removal of private detention facilities, improved oversight and accountability measures for government-run facilities, and the prioritization of community-based supervision programs. The bill has garnered support from a number of House and Senate Democrats, with Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington State calling it “a measure that will go a long way to restore humanity and dignity to the immigration system.”

However, critics of the bill believe it goes too far in favoring illegal aliens over the interests of US citizens and could endanger public safety and lead to more illegal immigration.
