New York Universityโs Center on Race Inequality & the Law has published a protest tip page that includes telling white students to act as human shields between minorities and police.
Published on March 18, 2025, and reported by Campus Reform, the universityโs guidelines encourage white students to leverage their โwhite privilegeโ by positioning themselves as physical barriers between police and โBlack and Brown peopleโ during protests.
On their โProtest Tips and Resourcesโ page, it says that protesting can be dangerous, โespecially for Black and Brown people.โ
Campus Reform reports:
One of the tips calls on readers to โ[u]se white privilege to protect othersโ by interposing themselves between police officers and โBlack and Brown people.โ
Protesters are also encouraged to be on the lookout for undercover police officers, record arrests, wear masks, and use hand sanitizer.
The tips page also encourages demonstrators to โassume you came into contact with [COVID-19] and self-isolate for two weeks after attending the protests,โ and to take a COVID-19 test.
The implication is clear: white students are expected to absorb potential risks and consequences to shield others who may be engaging in criminal behavior based on their perceived racial advantage.
