As rumors swirl about replacing President Joe Biden, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fiercely criticizes her Democratic colleagues and warns of deep divisions within the party, casting doubt on Vice President Kamala Harris’s support and highlighting the influence of elite donors pushing for a political shake-up.
Democrats are threatening to walk out in response to a potential coup from donors and elites. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) voiced strong criticism of some of her Democratic colleagues as rumors about replacing President Joe Biden persist. She emphasized that there is no guarantee Democrats will unite behind Vice President Kamala Harris and outlined major challenges in that direction.
During a live chat, Ocasio-Cortez addressed the rumors about Biden, stating, “I want to talk to you all about all of this craziness that you see in the media about Joe Biden, and I’m just ripping the band-aid off because I think that it’s really important that people get the straight truth.” She expressed concern about the misinformation and emphasized her commitment to transparency, even if her views were controversial.
She acknowledged the recent debate performance, noting, “It sucked for everybody,” and extended criticism to former President Donald Trump, labeling him a “neo-Nazi” and “racist.” Ocasio-Cortez highlighted the widespread fear of a Trump presidency, which influences some Democrats’ hesitations about Biden.
Addressing the internal challenges within the party, Ocasio-Cortez criticized colleagues who anonymously voice their concerns to the press. “Over the last several weeks, there have been lots of Democrats who have been giving little anonymous quotes to the press… I’m not here to knock the press on it. I’m here to knock my colleagues on it,” she stated, calling the behavior “bullshit.”
She further asserted that there is no consensus among Democrats about supporting Harris. “A lot of them are not just interested in removing the president. They are interested in removing the whole ticket,” she said, revealing that significant portions of the donor class and elites are also opposed to Harris being the nominee.
Ocasio-Cortez warned against underestimating the complexity of such decisions, emphasizing the need to consider the consequences and avoid making decisions based on groupthink or momentum. “We really need to consider the consequences. And if the data, the logistics, what have you, supports another path? Go ahead, like make that,” she urged.
Her comments come amid swirling rumors that Biden could step down soon, despite denials from his campaign. Top Democratic powerbrokers are reportedly working behind the scenes to end Biden’s political career, adding to the uncertainty and tension within the party.
