Taiwan Sounds Alarm For China’s 2027 Military Offensive

Taiwan’s Foreign Minister, Joseph Wu, has alerted the world about the possibility of China’s 2027 military offensive, raising concerns over potential conflict.

Wu made this statement during an interview with the UK’s LBC radio station, where he expressed concern over the Chinese military threat and stressed the need for vigilance. He also called on the UK and other like-minded nations to prevent China from initiating a war against Taiwan.

The UK government recently approved a significant increase in exports of submarine parts and technology to Taiwan, following a call by former prime minister Liz Truss for a “global NATO” to arm Taipei in the same way the alliance was arming Kiev. This move has raised tensions between the UK and China, with Beijing warning against any interference in its internal affairs.

Wu’s prediction about a potential conflict in 2027 echoes similar warnings from other sources, including CIA Director William Burns and General Mike Minihan, the head of the US Air Mobility Command. While these warnings have been met with skepticism by some officials, they reflect the growing concern over China’s military ambitions and its territorial claims.

Taiwan is recognized as an independent state by only a few countries, but the United States has established cordial, unofficial relations with Taipei for a long time, in both military and economic aspects. Officially, Washington still maintains adherence to the “One-China” policy.

China considers Taiwan to be an inalienable part of its territory that has been seized by separatists. While Beijing says it prioritizes a peaceful reunification, it has not ruled out military options. The situation remains tense, with both sides engaged in military posturing and diplomatic maneuvers.

In the face of these tensions, it is important for all parties to exercise restraint and work towards a peaceful resolution of the Taiwan issue. Any military conflict between China and Taiwan would have far-reaching consequences, with no winners and only losers. The international community must play a constructive role in preventing such a scenario and promoting stability in the region.
