TRUTH PUKE’S TAKE: A new study has found that some of the most widely used food pesticides in the United States contain “potentially dangerous” levels of toxic PFAS “forever chemicals”.
The study found PFAS present in three out of seven agricultural pesticides tested, including Intrepid 2F, which is the second most widely applied product in the state of California behind Roundup. The testing also found the chemicals in Malathion 5EC, which contains the neurotoxin malathion. PFAS are known to be linked to a number of serious health problems such as cancer, thyroid disease, kidney dysfunction, birth defects, autoimmune disease, and other health problems.
PFAS are often used to make consumer products resist water, stains, and heat. They are called “forever chemicals” because they do not naturally degrade. Multiple studies have established that crops absorb PFAS and that they can be ingested by humans. The Food and Drug Administration began monitoring PFAS in food in 2019 and has detected them in fruits and vegetables, but has not set any limits.
The authors of the study have called for regulatory action and for the EPA to remove pesticide products that are contaminated with these chemicals.
