Twitter Boosts Accounts Spewing Hate Speech

Decca Muldowney of The Daily Beast exposes the harrowing reality of Twitter’s failure to combat hate speech originating from Twitter Blue users. In a shocking revelation, new research conducted by the Center For Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) reveals that a staggering 99 percent of flagged hate speech tweets from Twitter Blue subscribers remained unremoved even after four days. The tweets in question, rife with neo-Nazism, antisemitism, racism, and homophobia, blatantly violate Twitter’s own hate speech policies. Disturbingly, it appears that Twitter’s paid accounts, which should be subject to greater scrutiny, may be receiving preferential treatment instead. With Elon Musk at the helm, promising a better Twitter experience, the platform has instead become a breeding ground for anti-LGBT hate. The CCDH’s Imran Ahmed rightly questions Musk’s priorities, highlighting the tacit approval of advertisers who continue to support a platform that allows hate to flourish. Twitter’s dismissive response to these concerns, symbolized by a poop emoji, further demonstrates their complicity.

Does this situation indicate a conflict between the principles of free speech and the responsibility to address and combat hate speech?
