Chaos erupted in a Tennessee House Criminal Justice Subcommittee meeting Wednesday when far-left State Representative Justin J. Pearson (D-Memphis) lunged at a Republican colleague in a fit of rage, hurling insults and pointing fingersโliterallyโafter his anti-gun bill went down in flames.
The showdown started when Pearson pushed his latest gun-grabbing scheme, HB 1392, a bill that wouldโve gutted Tennesseeโs permitless carry lawโa hard-won victory for Second Amendment patriots.
Under current law, law-abiding Tennesseans can carry firearms without jumping through bureaucratic hoops, a right Pearson wanted to strip away.
Thankfully, the committee saw through the nonsense and crushed the bill in a 7-2 vote, according to NBC39.
โWe have a responsibility to protect our kids and our communities,โ Pearson whined from the podium, trotting out tired liberal talking points about โgun violence.โ But when State Representative Andrew Farmer (R-Sevierville) dared to call him out, all hell broke loose.
Farmer said, โI know every member in this committee has been here this year, working, during committee, during session, voting on bills. And I know that you may have some things going on, but you have not. So, I donโt think itโs fair for you to come here before this committee and lecture us on hard work and convictions and hard work for our committee.
Farmer continued, โSo, while I understand where youโre at and what youโre doing and why, but at the end of the day, weโve been here working. Weโve been on the House floor voting on bills. Weโve taken the tough questions. Weโve taken the tough votes, and weโre doing so. So I just donโt think itโs fair for you to come in here and lecture this committee on hard work when weโve been up here doing the hard work.โ
Thatโs when Pearson lost it. Pearson said that Farmerโs remarks made him โvery, very angry.โ The Memphis Democrat then explained that he had been absent because his brother died by suicide last December.
Pearson: It is a pathetic excuse for you to not answer the question of why we are doing nothing about the gun violence epidemic, and instead personally attack me. But let me explain to you what I have been doing, Representative, since you asked.
My brotherโฆ passed away from gun suicide on December 1st of 2024. And since that happened, it shattered my family, like gun violence has shattered so many families. It shattered my nephewsโ lives, my mother, my father, my other brothers who are still here.
I buried my brother. I planned his entire funeral. My fiancรฉe made his obituary. I made sure that he was taken care of, even in death. Thatโs what Iโve been doing. But also, not just thatโI went to all of my nephewsโ schools.
I met with their principals and their teachers to ensure that they are okay. I gave them, and made sure that they had, grief counseling and that theyโre seeing a psychiatrist. Thatโs what Iโve been doing.
While youโre talking about hard work, you need to realize that our job is not just in this state house with these marble floors. Our jobs are on the streets and in the communities that we serve.
While youโve been here passing bills that have been hurting transgender childrenโฆ while youโve been here passing bills that have been hurting the poor, hurting the marginalized, hurting the disenfranchisedโฆ while youโve been here passing bills that have not ended povertyโฆ while youโve been here passing bills that have not helped people who need Medicaid expansionโฆ while youโve been here doing the hard work of making sure that our state is not the state that it can beโbecause you have to sign it.
But the sob story didnโt sway the committee, and after the bill went down in flames, Pearson lost it completely.
Video captured by FOX Nashville caught the unhinged Democrat charging at Farmer, towering over him, jabbing a finger in his face. โDonโt you ever come at me or my family!โ

Farmerโs office released a statement to WKRN:
โThere is not a single member of our body who doesnโt have tremendous sympathy for Rep. Pearsonโs loss. Every one of us has struggled with personal tragedy at some point and we have all offered grace and compassion while he took these last few months off to grieve.
Unfortunately, on his first day back, Rep. Pearson took the first available opportunity to attack and demean his colleagues and then attempted to confront me physically. I will continue to pray for him, and I hope he finds peace and healing.โ
